Origins and Layout

. . . During the 1980s, two breakthroughs were made in Europe which augmented and superseded the preliminary work [of putting together a list of the early members of the Society, which] I had done in Rome in 1978. First, under Albano's leadership, AGMAR undertook the vast project of recording on a computer database file the basic factual data on every member of the SM, past and present. All the manuscripts and other sources on hand in the Archives were mined for these data that were entered into the database file by Albano and the Archives staff. The result is the document and computer file I identify as ARC1 in the "Sources" section below.

The second breakthrough was Father Emile Weltz's reconstruction of the early Personnels of the SM which . . . yields an abundance of data which clarify and fill in the gaps, discrepancies, and doubtful cases of my preliminary work of 1978.
