Opening Prayer
With [Mary], let us consecrate ourselves anew to [God], and may this consecration be entire, without reserve or return.

Day Five: Marriage Feast of Cana (John 2:1-11)

On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine gave out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And, Jesus said to her, “Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” . .

Adèle continues
. . . Here is a woman who assesses the situation, seeks a resolution, and is not daunted by the response she receives that does not seem to bode well in terms of that for which she hopes. Nevertheless, she goes to the servants and tells them to “Do whatever he tells you.” This is a phrase that is near and dear to the Marianist Family. It tells us that we must be obedient to what is being asked of us, and that we must have the faith and courage to risk what may not be to our liking or even not be something with which we are familiar. However, we must trust, as Mary did, that God is with us in each and every situation. It is part of Mary’s mission—which is Jesus’ mission—then with God nothing is impossible.

For Reflection:
Have you ever been asked to something that was not what you would have chosen? How have you dealt with this?
