NACMS Programs

NACMS has been presenting programs for groups all across the United States since 1983. Some programs have been designed especially for a specific group or a unique circumstance confronting a community. However, some of our programs have a universal application. We have been able to replicate presentations for groups in diverse settings.

Whenever possible, we try to "package" the program in such a way that Marianist groups can conduct the program themselves, if bringing in outside resource people or scheduling present difficulties.

"Setting the Marianist Table"
One such effort to "distribute" a program is the Things Marianist issue, "Setting the Marianist Table." Script, ideas for props and environment, and ‘director’s notes’ are included so any group will be able to pick it up, study it a bit, call folk together, and have an experience that provides "food for thought" for a community or group discussion on characteristics of Marianist life.

Picnic and Ponder
Another more recent offering was initiated in Dayton, Ohio in 1998. The format and content can easily be duplicated and implemented in many local settings. Picnic and Ponder is a series of four 2-hour events, designed to present basic material on aspects of the Marianist charism. The format incorporates presentation, simple prayer, handouts, and discussion guides.

In Dayton, we picked a central location with both outdoor and inside facilities (in case of bad weather), asked people to bring their own picnic dinner, provided a babysitter for families with young children, and hoped someone would show up. They did – about twenty-five people for each session!

Topics have included

    • Faith in Today’s World: Fidelity to the Mess
    • Marianist Charism: Living out the Founders’ Dreams
    • Community: A Common Vocation
    • System of Virtues: Growing in the Spiritual Life
    • Engaging in Justice Marianist Style
    • Growing in Mary
    • Love of Life: The Marianist Martyrs
    • Been There, Done That . . . Keeping Community Alive.

We asked local people who had a Marianist background (not necessarily "experts" but someone we thought people would trust had good things to say) to prepare 10-15 minutes of remarks on the topic. NACMS provided the discussion guides and handouts for later reference.

This would be an easy program to do on your own. NACMS will be more than happy to provide you with summaries of the remarks, discussion questions, and a set of handouts for you to duplicate. (We can even send you the original signs we used to point out the direction of the gathering.)
