Ben Dougherty

After graduating from Chaminade high school in St. Louis, Ben earned his BA in Liberal Studies with a dual emphasis in Mathematics and Humanities from Maryville University. In 2004, Ben entered into the Aspirancy with the Society of Mary at St. Aloysius in Cleveland, OH; while there, he tutored students at Villa Angela – St. Joseph (VASJ) high school and St. Aloysius elementary school, helped coordinate the service program and facilitate retreats at VASJ, assisted with the MUSP program, and participated in the monthly food distributions to the poor. After a wonderful year of discernment, he decided not to go on to the Novitiate.

Ben returned to his hometown of St. Louis and studied Classical languages before accepting an internship with NACMS. When he’s not traveling to visit Marianists, Ben enjoys staffing retreats at the Marianist Family Retreat Center in Cape May, NJ, reading ancient Greek lyric poetry, playing golf, fly fishing, and listening to Celtic music.

Ben is currently living in Dayton, OH. His motto is a saying of Fr. Chaminade’s: “May our submission and our resignation to the dispositions of Providence render our calm independent of changing events.”
