Carol Ramey

11/08/2007

Carol Ramey is beginning her sixteenth year with NACMS. First serving as an editor and on the program staff, she was appointed director in 1993. Carol became a member of the Marianist Family while she was a student at the University of Dayton. She doesn't publish the years, but Miriam Hall, which was refurbished a few years ago, was brand new when she was on the campus. Since then she has been part of the Cleveland Sodality, the Anawim Community in Cincinnati, and the Marianist State Community.

Carol often tells people that she finds this work enjoyable because no day is like another. Each will have a mix of teaching, planning, writing, editing, working on budgets, finding tidbits of Marianist trivia in response to inquiries, staying in touch with worldwide developments in the Marianist Family . . . and that's just before lunch!

Marianists are rarely called "lone rangers," and Carol is no exception. The NACMS Staff -- Team members, support personnel, editors, librarians -- all contribute to the mission to explore the history and serve today's communities. Working with representatives of all the Marianist Family branches at NACMS -- a Marianist Sister, a priest of the Society of Mary, several lay Marianists, and a host of skilled, dedicated consultants is a privilege which Carol says she wishes could exist within every Marianist setting.

Probably, the work she looks forward to the most is trying to create relevant and interesting ways to communicate the Marianist spirit. Her operational motto is "From the history books into our hearts!" She believes that history is essential to understanding who we are. But, once the basic story line is known, she invites people to look at the implications of the story for their spiritual journey. She encourages people, as Bernard Lee, SM, says, to make the story timeless and timely for themselves and for our Church and our world.
