The mission of the North American Center for Marianist Studies is to help the Marianist Family understand, appreciate, share, and develop the Marianist Spirit in North America. This mission respects the richness of our historical development, while attempting to address significant patterns of change taking place in society at large, in the Church, and in the Marianist Family.

Core activities of the North American Center for Marianist Studies include research, writing, teaching, lecturing, conducting retreats and workshops, networking, publishing, and consulting work with all branches of the comprehensive Marianist Family.

NACMS is sponsored by the Province of the United States.

NACMS Offers Outreach to engage the Marianist Family in the ongoing pursuit of Marianist Studies

  • Provide Programs and Services: to present programs on Marianist topics ranging from two-hour presentations to weeklong programs. Travel expenses are covered by NACMS.
  • Pursue Research and Development: to offer intensive study opportunities for those interested in research into Marianist studies. These opportunities include
    • individualized directed reading programs, using Marianist documents;
    • a yearlong internship, during which a person initiates research and directed study under the guidance of NACMS Team members;
    • specialized programs of instruction; and
    • seminars.
  • Serve as a Resource Center: to build the NACMS Library, which contains a collection of more than 3,000 books, tapes, and articles on a broad range of topics: Mariology, contemporary theological thought, the life and times of the Founders, persons who influenced the Founders, and 200 years of Marianist history.
  • Maintain Linkage with other Marianist Centers and similar non-Marianist groups: to provide links to other resource centers, persons knowledgeable about Marianist heritage, and groups or communities living the Marianist Spirit.
  • Make Available a Full Range of Publications: to tap the foundational wisdom of our Marianist heritage, fostering dialogue of this heritage with contemporary culture and stimulating insight toward the future embodiment of our charism. NACMS publications focus on the Founders and Marianist history, spirit, and contemporary thought. Materials include complete bibliographies, summaries, and analysis of the Marianist charism, as well as brochures detailing essential elements of Marianist life. An index and price list are available.
