Things Marianist: What Are Chaminade's Principles for Community Building?
by Thomas F. Giardino, SM
In the new six-page Things Marianist on community building, Brother Thomas F. Giardino, SM, develops four principles that guided the thought and practical wisdom of Father Chaminade's world-changing approach to community. Coupled with this analysis is Brother Tom's experience of building Marianist community--both lay and vowed religious--for more than 45 years. One result of this historical, theological, and lived examination is Things Marianist, "What Are Chaminade's Principles for Community Building?"

You've Got To Be Carefully Taught

The reason for writing this essay is to share experiences, thoughts, and impressions with Marianists who are concerned with involving themselves with the emerging multicultural faces of America. Cultural characteristics inherent in the behavior of Anglo-Americans and several immigrant peoples will be described.
Becoming a Caring Community
This guide assumes a model for cell church in which all members are responsible for the success of the group and are called to lead at some point. It does not require an experienced or designated leader/facilitator. It relies on the simplicity and depth of Scripture as the central focus for sharing, learning and growing. Scripture is examined at an experiential level that does not require a Scripture scholar or theologian to moderate the group. Questions are designed to accommodate any level of understanding and self-revelation.
