In addition to celebrating National Vocation Awareness Week in early November, we also honor the lives and legacies of the saints.
As Marianists, we are blessed with many men and women who have demonstrated saintly qualities—some are actively on the path to canonization, and others are ordinary saints who impact our lives daily.
Explore these resources to connect with the saints of the Marianist Family:
- Blessed Jakob Gapp, Marianist (Book by Josef Levit, SM): Discover the compelling story of Blessed Jakob Gapp, SM, whose prophetic opposition and martyrdom under the Nazi regime serve as a clarion call to follow the Gospel over the trendy politics of the day.
- “A Spectacle of Saints” (Community Meeting Kit): A meditative and prayerful resource that explores the Marianist candidates for sainthood and celebrates the ordinary saints in our lives today.
- “Do You Believe in the Communion of Saints?” (Article by Fr. Paul Landolfi, SM): Fr. Landolfi explores how holiness is rooted in love for God and neighbor. He emphasizes that, while we rightly honor the official saints, we must never forget the "unknown Marianist Family saints" who lived and died in God's presence.
- Sharing Our Marianist Stories #26: Who Are the Marianist Saints? (Podcast with Bro. David Betz, SM): Gabby Bibeau and Bro. David Betz, who promotes Marianist causes for sainthood, discuss the lay and religious Marianists on the path to canonization, the process, and the possibility of a U.S.-born Marianist cause.
- Things Marianist: Who Are the Marianist Saints? (By Daniel M. Jordan and Fr. Adolf M. Windisch, SM): This issue explores the Marianist approach to holiness, showing how the lives of Chaminade, other Marianist Blesseds, and Mary serve as models for living out our baptismal call by doing ordinary things with an extraordinary love.
Our celebration extends to Black Catholic History Month, particularly the lives of Black Marianists who have made a substantial impact.
Make sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook, where we will highlight quotes from Songs of Our Hearts, Meditations of Our Souls: Prayers for Black Catholics, a text coauthored by Fr. Paul Marshall, SM, Cecilia A. Moore, and C. Vanessa White. The book is available in our library.
